Overview

Star Wars™ Identities is a redefined blockbuster exhibition experience that investigates the concept of human identity through the memorable characters of the Star Wars films. The exhibition follows the journeys of Luke and Anakin Skywalker, cinema’s preeminent father and son duo, as their identities are developed from childhood through adolescence and into adulthood. Visitors develop a better understanding of what makes the characters of Star Wars who they are, and leave the exhibition with one question, at once simple and profound: What forces shape you?

Seen by more than 2 million people, GSM designed, built and produced this successful interactive exhibition, which has traveled in 14-city worldwide for almost 10 years without being outdated.

The Identity Quest: an interactive journey

What could be more universal than human identity? One of the strengths of Star Wars™ Identities is that it treats this profound subject in a playful way. In order to tie the Star Wars collection and the scientific content together, we created an original interactive experience that invites visitors to create their own unique Star Wars character. Equipped with an electronic wristband, visitors explore interactive environments and answer questions about their own identity. At the end of their visit, their hero is revealed and can be shared with others via social media.

“If this is “edutainment”, it goes far beyond the usual and into a sphere of learning that has the potential to bring concrete difference to people’s lives; it’s hard, really, to come away from the exhibition without the impulse to examine your own life and those factors which moulded its existence. I know I wasn’t personally immune to it.” Clarisse Loughrey, Journalist, The Independant, UK, 2016

" We had no idea what an incredible experience it would be for all of us. What we got was an opportunity to broach the subject of adoption in ways we never imagined. "

Up close and personal with fan-favourite artifacts

Working in close collaboration with Lucasfilm Ltd., we selected some 200 props, costumes, models, and pieces of artwork from the making of the films. The result: a stunning collection from the archives of the Lucas Arts Cultural Museum that make even the biggest Star Wars fans drool.
